| BJP refuses to meet Asma | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 7 Human rights activist from Pakistan Asma Jehangir who is currently on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir was refused meeting by the state unit of the BJP on the instructions of the party high command. Panthers Party and PDP leaders today expressed surprise over the attitude of the BJP. Senior Panthers Party leader,Mr Harsh Dev Singh,said that the BJP led NDA Government had initiated peace process with Pakistan and laid the foundation for people to people contact and as such it was surprising that the state unit of the BJP did not accept Asma’s request for a meeting. A senior PDP leader,Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir,also supported Mr Harsh Dev’s views and said “there was not harm if the BJP leaders had met her.”He added atleast the BJP leaders could have conveyed to her their view points. State BJP unit chief Ashok Khajuria,said here today “we did not meet Asma Jehangir because we had been instructed by our party high command to turn down any request for a meeting if made from the human rights activists from Pakistan. Asma who met several political leaders and intellectuals here yesterday had also sought an appointment with the BJP leaders but “we refused to meet her.” |
