| Panthers’ to concentrate on Muslim belt | | | Early Times Reporter Jammmu | Mar 7 The Panthers Party has decided to make inroads in the Muslim dominated areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Kishtwar districts so that it could win a seat or two in the ensuing Assembly election in the state. Hitherto the Panthers Party has been concentrating in Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi and Samba districts. Though in 2002 Assembly poll the Panthers Party had fielded five candidates from Poonch, Rajouri and Doda districts it drew blank from these belts. Its share of votes ranged between 0.34 and 0.84 per cent. However, leader of the Panthers Party in the Assembly, Harsh Dev Singh, said that “we have decided to hold series of public meetings in Doda,Kishtwar,Bhaderwah,Poonch and Rajouri belts. He said that a number of prominent Muslim leaders had already joined the Panthers Party and “we feel that the situation in Doda, Kishtwar and Poonch was favourable for our party.” Harsh Dev, who has been touring various segments of Udhampur and Ramnagar districts, said that “we may field our candidates at least from seven constituencies in the Muslim dominated belts in the Jammu region. |
