| Secretary Agri reviews progress on dev schemes | | | JAMMU, AUGUST 26 - Secretary Agriculture Production Department Mr. K. B. Jandial reviewed the progress on various ongoing development schemes of Horticulture and Agriculture Departments at Horticulture Complex, Gole Pully, Talab Tilloo here today. Director Agriculture Mr. Farooq Hakak, Director Horticulture, Mr. M. S. Qasba, Joint Directors and district level functionaries participated. Deliberating upon the progress of various development schemes, Director Horticulture Mr. M. S. Qasba apprised the Secretary about district-wise achievements made under different components like area expansion, creation of water sources, training/awareness camps, on farm handling units, establishment of poly green houses etc. He also reiterated that the area and production under various fruit crops has increased manifolds during past few years while explaining about the progress made in strawberry cultivation made in Jammu. He stated that the department has received overwhelming response from the farmers due to greater profitability of this short duration crop. He divulged that 4.7 lakh runners of strawberry were distributed during last year, which produced a record production of 1 lakh kgs of strawberry fruit. Mr. Jandial was impressed with the progress made by the department especially in strawberry cultivation and showed his desire to have ground level assessment of the achievement of the department. Later, Mr. Jandial visited to newly establish meeting hall, library and soil, leaf and water analysis laboratory in the Horticulture Complex. He also visited departmental model farm at Chak Jaggar. During his visit at Chak Jagger, the Secretary Agriculture was apprised by Director Agriculture about the establishment of big nursery under technology mission at a cost of Rs. 18 lakh for vegetable development, flouriculture development with integrated approach on fodder development, mushroom and apiculture. The Secretary Agriculture impressed upon the department officers to speedup the execution of works for the benefit of farming community. |
