| No CBI probe in Lone assassination? | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 7 Despite making a commitment on the floor of the House, the state government is no mood to order a CBI inquiry into the killing of former Minister and Peoples Democratic Party leader Dr Ghulam Nai Lone. Following serious allegations raised by independent legislator from Sangrama and son of the slain Minister, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had announced in January 14 in the legislative assembly that a CBI inquiry will be instituted to investigate the assassination of Dr Ghulam Nabi Lone. It is going to be nearly two months since then but the government has not made a formal request to CBI to take over the case. Shoiab Lone, the legislator from Sangrama constituency which was represented by his father before being killed in October 2005, had alleged that his father had fallen to a political conspiracy hatched by some elements in the Peoples Democratic Party. Though he did not name the party or person specific in the assembly but he dropped clear hints that his father was killed because a raised a banner of revolt against the party. Reacting to his statement, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had promised in the legislative assembly that the case will be referred to the CBI for the satisfaction of the MLA. However, two months down the line no follow up have been made by the government. EARLY TIMES tried to inquire from the Home department and other departments of the government to learn that the government was now in no mood to refer the case to the CBI. Sources said that the PDP does not want the case to be referred to the CBI. When contacted, a senior leader of the PDP said that it was for the government to take the follow-up action and his party was not worried about any investigation. “Let Scot Land Yard come to investigate the case”, the Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig had said in the Legislative Assembly on January 14. The PDP leaders alleged that the Shoaib Lone was being backed and provoked by a group of Congress leaders and some disgruntled leaders within the PDP. Refusing to be named, the PDP leader pointed out to Ghulam Hassan Mir as provocateur of Lone to seek the CBI inquiry. |
