Udhampur, Sept 4: People of village Kuandri falling under panchayat Char in Tehsil Lati here are living in constant fear of wild bears.
Sohan Lal-a local of village told this reporter that many people of his village have been badly injured by the bear. "Our children, women, elderly people and others easily fall prey to the beast who attacks them and leaves them critically injured," he further said.
He said that now the beast has also destroyed their maize crop from which they had many expectations like that of clearing the debts.
People of the village have appealed to the district administration to look into the matter and remove the bears from the forest near residential areas as they easily enter the populated areas to create havoc.
They have also asked the wild life department to consult the village heads before leaving such ferocious animals near their hamlets.
The village leaders have demanded compensation from the government for their losses done by the bear as they have only limited sources of income.
They have threatened protest if the bear is not immediately removed from their area and if compensation is not provided to the people injured by the animal and to those whose crops have been destroyed by it. |
