Bring petrol, diesel under GST: SRS asks Modi
9/4/2018 10:14:25 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 4: Looting people, profiteering at their expense and squeezing their hard earned money is the sole aim of the BJP government. While crude oil prices plummeting petrol-diesel prices are skyrocketing, said State President, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Rajiv Mahajan accused the Modi government of looting the common people and profiteering at their expense. He said the way prices were rising and taxes were being imposed on petroleum products and other items while the economy continued to plummet puts a question mark on the working of Modi government.
The Modi government, Rajiv Mahajan said, had given absurd reasons for the increase in petrol and diesel prices, and dealt a "devastating blow" to common people by increasing the excise duty 11 times in the past three-and-a-half years.
Today, he said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire leadership of the BJP say that Indian economy is robust and growing at the fastest pace among the major economies of the world. Still, petrol and diesel prices are deregulated and rising, and there is no talk of "oil subsidy".
The price of the Indian basket of crude oil crashed from USD 98 per barrel in 2014 to USD 68 in 2018 prompting PM Narendra Modi to thank his "luck" for reducing prices but the price of petro products always rises every day.
At current costs, India has the highest retail prices of petrol and diesel among South Asian nations, he said adding that taxes account for half of the pump rates for each litre of petrol and diesel.
He demanded for bringing petrol and diesel under GST. If it happens petrol may be available at low rate.
