Separatists movement in punjab may have its shadow on J&K
9/4/2018 10:14:39 PM
If there is any resurfacing of Separatist movement in Punjab it may cast its shadow on Jammu and Kashmir. Not only that Punjab falls on the border of Jammu and Kashmir but people in the state, especially in the Kashmir valley, may wish to see other states in the grip of terrorists. The Union Government has asked the state to be wary of any effort for the resurgence of the Separatist movement. The Centre's warning was reportedly conveyed to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh during his meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently..Intelligence agencies have been on high alert in Punjab after the London declaration by the international organized for Referendum 2020 was held last month. Over the past few months, the Punjab Police have busted terror modules in the state, linked with organisers of the referendum, under an ISI operation code, named "Express".
Though officially the state government maintained that they discussed various security-related issues and asked the Home Minister to address the concerns regarding Punjab's internal security issues, sources say that the Centre expressed "serious concerns" over the efforts by the Pakistan's ISI to revive the secessionist movement in Punjab and by the way Separatist movement got buried when the Punjab had a tough police chief in K.P.S. Gill. He succeeded in arresting the activities of terrorists by ordering the police to catch and kill. And this formula worked well though some innocent people were killed.
And during the early 80's the terrorists activities in Punjab had their influence in Jammu and Kashmir. And some of the youth in Jammu were wooed by terrorists from Punjab. And this time the vale of Kashmir is quite ripe for any influence and if terrorists surface in Punjab it may have its impact in Jammu and Kashmir. Once Pakistan backs terrorist movement in Punjab it means that border between Punjab and Pakistan may remain porous allowing militants to cross into Punjab first and later travel to Jammu and Kashmir. It is a significant development and the centre should have discussed the issue with the senior functionaries of the police, security forces and the Army deployed in Jammu and Kashmir.
