Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Chauhan stressed the need for creating massive awareness so that the people can come forward to avail benefits under the scheme, which aims at providing safe drinking water to every village with a very nominal contribution of the beneficiaries, which they can easily contribute. This works on demand driven approach rather than supply driven as early exists in the PHE department and people have to contribute 10% of the totals cost of the water supply scheme as contribution so that there should be sense of belongingness and they must own and maintain the infrastructures created, She added. The DDC further enjoined upon the executing agencies not to restrict the scheme only to those areas where there is abundance of water but extend it to those areas where the people actually need it and are ready to contribute after proper awareness and try to accommodate maximum number of souls so that per family contribution can be reduced. Mr. K.K.Gupta apprised the committee that the ceiling for the year 2006-07 has been fixed at Rs. 330 lakh out of which 297 lakh is the central share and Rs. 33 lakh has to be contributed as community share which is nearly 10% of the total allocation. He discussed the principles set up for the functioning of Swajaldhara schemes in the state district length and said that under this scheme each village shall have a village water and sanitation committee which shall project the demand for developing sources of drinking water, they shall deposit 10% of the cost and then 90% of the expenditure shall be met by the government. |
