| Police cane charges SRTC employees, one injured | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Mar 8 One person was injured as police resorted to cane charge to disperse the protesting employees of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) at Lal Chowk here today. Police had to use batons on the protestors after they refused to leave the premises of the SRTC office at Lal Chowk peacefully, official sources said. One SRTC employee, Ghulam Mohammad of Anantnag district, was injured in the police action and about 10 Corporation employees were detained by the police, they added. The SRTC employees have been on an indefinite strike since February 19 in support of their demands including immediate release of their last five month's pay, cost of living allowance, time-bound promotions and a probe into the embezzlement of employees’ contributory provident fund. Police arrested more than 800 employees of the SRTC in Jammu and Srinagar over the past three days under Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) as the state government has declared the strike illegal.
