Machail yatris rue lack of facilities
9/5/2018 10:00:16 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5: Although the district administration Kishtwar had made tall claims of providing all requisite facilities to the pilgrims of Machail Yatri before commencement of the yatra, it has miserably failed to fulfil its promises.
The Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar had directed the concerned departments to ensure fool proof security besides ensuring availability of drinking water, electricity, streetlights, firewood, gas cylinder, ration supply, electric generator, medical and telephone facilities at every halt; ambulance, fire extinguishers, temporary toilets facilities and sufficient number of vehicles for the devotees' upto Gulabgarh Paddar.
But astonishingly, the pilgrims were made to face huge difficulties with poor arrangements of mobile telecommunication whereas it was ensured in the meeting that BSNL will provide connectivity enroute Machail by installing mobile towers, which could not be done. Similarly the temporarily toilets were not installed properly.
"Such slackness on the part of the authority concerned has been hurting the sentiments of pilgrims. Enhancing airfare arbitrarily by the local administration has brewed resentment among the pilgrims," said sources, adding that it was promised that cost of air tickets will not be increased but on the contrary Rs 1500 were increased.
Sources informed that the poor medical facilities aggravated the miseries of the pilgrims.
The erratic electric supply in the area added to the pilgrims' miseries. "The former PDD minster and BJP leader had promised that power supply will be reached to Machail this year by laying down lines but all these claims proved empty still the area has been put into dark due to apathy of government," they said.
The bad conditions of roads speak volume of negligence of GREF authorities who didn't bother to repair the up to Gulabgarh while PWD (R&B) also failed to contribute its bit to ensure hassle free road in inclement weather conditions. Emergency medical facilities were missing at base camp while enroute Machail.
