Orientation workshop on Swachh Bharat Mission organized

JAMMU, Sept 7: The Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Jammu of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, today organized an orientation workshop on Swachh Bharat Mission at PWD Guest House, Gandhi Nagar.
The workshop was organized to sensitize the officers, officials and field functionaries of the Regional Outreach Bureau posted in different districts of the state about the mission. The workshop was also attended by the artists registered with ROB, Jammu.
The workshop was organized as part of upcoming awareness programs on the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) to be launched by ROB, Jammu in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
Resource persons from departments and agencies like Municipal Corporation of Jammu, J&K State Pollution Control Board(JKSPCB) and Directorate of Health & Family Welfare and Department of Urban Local Bodies briefed the audience about the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission and need for community participation for its success . The experts stressed on the need to adopt cleanliness as a mission for realizing the dream of a Swachh Bharat.
Zaffar Iqbal, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Jammu Municipal Corporation laid emphasis on the need to segregate the wastes at source for proper waste management and need for grass root level awareness in this regard. He informed about methods to convert organic wastes into useful bio-fertilizers by composting.
Dr. Anju Sida, Incharge of the Biomedical Waste Management Cell, JKSPCB apprised about the risks of biomedical waste and resultant hospital acquired infections.
Dr. L.D. Bhagat, Assistant Director, Depatment of Health & Family Welfare, Jammu gave a detailed lecture on the importance of hygiene for a healthy and happy community.
