Kishtwar | Mar 8
As the entire world was observing International Women's Day, another newly wedded woman was struggling between life and death in Jammu's Kishtwar district after she received about ninety percent burn injuries.

Twenty-six year old Shafia Begm wife of Babar Ahanger of Nagsini, Kishtwar was admitted in district hospital Kishtwar in critical condition. Doctors said that she received more than 90 per cent burn injuries and her condition remained critical.

Sources disclosed that Shafia, a resident of Ghat, Doda, was married to Baber about three months back but the couple developed strained relations soon after their marriage.

Family members of the girl alleged that she was burnt by her in-laws after they failed to meet to the demands of the family. "She was repeatedly harassed and beaten up by her in-laws and was not allowed to meet us", Abdul Majeed, father of the victim said.

He held in-laws of the victim responsible for the condition of the daughter. Doctors attending her said that the girl has relieved more than ninety per cent of burn injuries and her condition remained critical.

"We have registered a case under 498-A RPC in Kishtwar police station and have started the investigation", SDPO Kishtwar Liyaqat Choudhary said adding, "The accused were still at large and a man hunt has been launched for their arrest".

The SDPO did not ruled out the possibility of demand of dowry and attempt to murder but said that the facts can be ascertained only after investigation.
