| Mir toughens his stand vis-à-vis PDP leadership | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu |March 8 Dissidents within the PDP, that shares power with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, have toughened their stand against the party leadership. Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir, who heads the dissidents in the PDP, ruled out the possibility of reconciliation with the party leadership. In reply to a question Mir said today “what reconciliation? No question of accepting any mediation. ”He said that the formation of the third front was his dream and hence “I will not sacrifice it for staying put in a party where I feel suffocated.” Asked whether he found the prospects for the third front bright,Mr Mir said “yes the future is very bright for the third front.” The former minister seems to have shut the doors for reconciliation for which efforts were initiated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Muzaffar Hussain Baig. As Mir has been engaged in wooing former ministers and legislators in his camp for forming the third front in collaboration with the Chief of Democratic Forum,Hakim Mohd.Yasin, and CPIM leader,Mr M.Y.Tarigami,the loyalists in the PDP have begun exchanging words of war with the dissidents. General secretary PDP,Mr Nizam-ud-Din Bhat described Mir’s changed as “political opportunism.”However,Mr Mir refused to comment on Mr Bhat’s accusations saying that “I do not want to react to a comment made by a novice.”He simply said “I could have been accused of political opportunism had I changed by stand or view for gaining power.” When Bhat was asked whether Mr Mir will quit the PDP or he will be expelled he said “it is for the PDP leadership to take a decision.” “I believe that by shifting loyalities Mr Mir was harming himself and the PDP,”he said adding “if Mr Mir quits the PDP would continue to be a force to reckon with.”
