| ‘Women played commendable role in shaping the nation's destiny’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 9 Indian women played commendable role in shaping the nation's destiny. Stated Minister for Health and Medical Education, Pt. Mangat Ram while addressing a largely attended women gathering at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University today, who came from various districts of the State to celebrate International Women Empowerment day. He also inaugurated an exhibition installed by self help groups under the banner of J&K Women Development Corporation. "Our women inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, took part in the freedom struggle and worked with men shoulder to shoulder for progress and development of the country", he maintained. Sharma said empowerment of women was effective way to help development of women in all fields of life and alleviating poverty of women. He said central and state government have taken various steps for women empowerment adding "our nation has politically empowered women with 8% in parliament and 3% in ministerial posts. He said J&K government have also empowered women with 33% in panchayats and local bodies" He also suggested that such exhibition should be exhibit in tourist places like Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine at Katra and enroute to Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra besides other famous tourism places where thousands of tourists come and are eager to buy local made products. The Minister gave away cash awards of Rs. 4000 to the girls who presented cultural variety programme on the occasion. Minister of State for Social Welfare, G M Saroori in his address said that government has initiated various measures for empowerment of women. He said besides imparting quality education, job oriented education was also introduced in schools an colleges for girl student so that they could earned their livelihood without any dependency. He said Social Welfare Department was providing vocational training to women with financial assistance for setting up of various income generating units. He said government was considering to establish centres across the state under which free education would be provided to left out girl child from 5th primary to 10th class. Director General Police Kuldeep Khoda in his address assured full support from police for empowerment of women. He said Home department was considering to establish women police stations at district levels and such centres in first phase would be established in district Rajouri and Udhampur so that women can file their grievances in these police stations. He gave cash award of Rs. 15000 to the girls who presented cultural programme on the occasion which were highly appreciated by the audience. On the occasion the women presented a cultural variety programme in different languages like Kashmir, Dogri and Hindi which indicates for demand to give them their due share in every sector for making them dependent. The programme was appreciated by one and all. |
