Prof. Bhim Singh invited Mrs. Asma Jahangir and her colleague, Mr. Michael Wiener, a Human Right Officer in UN Headquarters at Geneva in Ashoka Hotel last evening and enquired from her about her agenda during her visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Asma Jahangir told that she had no agenda. She has just come to India to study the religious Human Rights in the country. Bhim Singh when asked Asma Jahangir whether she has visited Palestine, Iraq, Yugoslavia to find out the violation of religious rights. Prof. Bhim Singh further wanted to know if she has ever studied the religious intolerance in Pakistan where dozen of people die everyday because of religious intolerance. Asma Jahangir told that she did not visit Iraq for want of security. She expressed her disappointment on the question of religious intolerance and told that she was not representing Pakistan nor she was dealing with Human Rights as such. Bhim Singh conveyed to us Asma Jahangir the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who, he said, were most secular, religiously tolerant and uphold the dignity of the composite culture of India. Asma Jahangir felt nervous and restless when Prof. Bhim Singh reminded her of the Pakistan invasion in 1947 against Jammu and Kashmir and the way the minorities have been treated in Pakistan. Prof. Bhim Singh also reminded Asma Jahangir how Pakistani infiltrators who came with guns to Jammu and Kashmir were provided free Legal Aid and hundreds of them were deported to Pakistan on the intervention of the Supreme Court. On the other hand, Prof. Bhim Singh told her that the prisoners in Pakistani jails remained unattended for decades and even were converted religiously which shows the highest degree of religious intolerance of a country she belongs too. He advised her to find out the discrimination by the state on the basis of religions first before she wastes her time in J ammu and Kashmir. Bhim Singh told the two person delegation of UN raptures Mrs. Asma Jahangir of Pakistan and Mr. Michael Wiener of Germany that the Indian sub-continent had witnessed in 1947 on the partition of India on the basis of religious intolerance. He said that Pakistan was founded on the religious doctrine whereas India remained unshaken by its centuries’ old composite culture. Pakistan failed in its experiments when a state founded in the name of Islam broke apart only in 25 years when Bangladesh was created. He told the visiting delegation that India has more Muslims than the total population of Pakistan and therefore India does not need any person to judge India’s secular credentials and secular bill of the people of Jammu and Kashmir who rightly decided in 1947 to accede to India. |
