Pak PM Imran doesn't know what UN resolutions on J&K say
9/10/2018 11:04:15 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 10: The newly-appoint Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan doesn't know what he says and he, it appears, says what the Army tell him to say to keep the pot boiling in Jammu & Kashmir so that they continue to maintain control over Pakistan. That Pakistan Prime Minister Khan doesn't know even ABC of the UN resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir became clear the other day when he said that it was imperative to find a solution to Jammu and Kashmir issue under the UN resolutions for peace in the region.
"Pakistan believed in peaceful coexistence and wanted to promote mutual cooperation with all its neighbours and the entire world on equal basis. It is imperative to find a solution to Jammu and Kashmir issue under the UN resolutions for peace in the region," he, inter-alia, said.
Earlier, in his victory speech in July, Imran Khan had said that Pakistan was ready to improve its ties with India and his government would like the leaders of the two sides to resolve all disputes, including the "core issue" of Kashmir.
It is clear that Khan has not read the UN resolutions. Had he read them, he would not have said what he said.
It's a fact that the UN resolution does talk about plebiscite as a solution to the so-called Kashmir issue. But, at the same time, it asks Pakistan to fulfill certain conditions before a plebiscite could be held not in Kashmir, but in the whole of Jammu and Kashmir State as it existed on August 15, 1947, when India attained independence and Pakistan came into being after the country's communal partition. It doesn't talk of a plebiscite region or district-wise. It says a plebiscite would be held in the state to ascertain the views of the people of the state as to what exactly they want: India or Pakistan. There is no third choice: Independence. There is also no fourth option: India-Pakistan joint control over Jammu and Kashmir.
The UN resolution directly asks Pakistan to vacate the aggression or quit PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, which are legitimately Indian as they were part of the Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir on August 15, 1947, if it wants a plebiscite to be organized in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has not only not vacated the aggression but also further violated the UN resolution by ceding a part of the Jammu and Kashmir territories in the Aksaichin area of Jammu and Kashmir to China. Besides, it has virtually merged Gilgit-Baltistan with the Pakistan and declared it as its fifth province.
But more than that, the UN resolution has implicitly recognized Indian sovereignty over PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan saying India will stations her troops in PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan to maintain law and order after Pakistan vacated the aggression.
All this should call the bluff of Pakistan and establish the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir have become redundant.
