| J P World wins Rs one lakh Corporate Twenty-20 tourney | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 9 Seasoned first class cricketer from the state, Jagtar Singh guided J P World XI to a 12-run victory over title holders Press Club XI in the final of 2nd Anandrathi (Rs one lakh prize money) Corporate Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament played at University of Jammu ground, here. Striking at the right time, Jagtar turned the tables against Press Club XI, halting their winning march by taking away three wickets in a single over. Playing confidently at 111-6, the Press Club reduced to 112 for nine by Jagar Singh, who was later rewarded with man of the match trophy. Young Vimarsh Kaw played nice innings but in the absence of support from other end he could not take the fight to its logical conclusion. Vimarsh, who opened the innings for Press Club, made 50-ball 52 runs including seven boundaries before he was bowled by Jagtar Singh. The prize distribution function could not take place today. “We have decided to hold the valedictory function on a later date, most probably at the end of this month,” Hilal Rather of Simula Sports Club, the organizers of the event, told SAN. Earlier, in a low scoring final, J P World won the toss and batting first set a target of 137 runs for seven, which, in rely, Press Club XI could not chase and exhausted their quota of 20 overs on 124 runs for nine wickets. Last batsman, Zorawar Singh was bowled on the last ball of the innings but remained unbeaten because it was a free hit delivery. It was a poor beginning from J P World who lost opener Irshad when score on board was just six runs. But fine innings played by middle order batsmen, Parveen Singh, Guru Partap Singh and Pranav Mahajan helped team set a competitive total. Raman Dutta and Pardeep Bali were most successful bowlers from Press Club, who shared two wickets each. In reply, Press Club played confidently and at one stage they had chances of winning the final, but three wickets in a single over by Jagtar Singh, including that of Vimarsh Kaw, changed the course of the match.
