HM militant outfit receives severe jolt; wiped out from Chattro area
One top commander killed, two others surrender along huge cache

Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist out fit, operating in Jammu and Kashmir, received a severe jolt today when one of its top Commander was gunned down in Kishtwar district while two other commanders surrendered at Reasi this morning.
A police spokesman said that on a specific information regarding movement of dreaded HM Commander in Chattro area of Kishtwar district, a police party headed by S P Kishtwar, Mumtaz Ahmed cordoned off the area and started search operation. A column of 11 RR also joined the search party and during search the hiding ultras opened fire on the police party which led to an encounter. In the ensuing gun fight, the police succeeded in eliminating the militant. He has been identified as Mohammed Qasim @ Babbar s/o Kala Gujjar, presently residing at Gorinor village in Chattro. The slain militant was the top commander of the HM outfit and was responsible for killings of number of civilians prominent among them was one Farid of village Chelali who was killed on July 31, 2006, the spokesman said.
He further said that the slain militant was a servant in a house at Batote when he joined the militancy on June 13, 2001 and a missing report was lodged with Police station Batote then. He mainly operated in Chattro, Barat and Kastigarh and in some other parts of Ramban district, the spokesman added.
He said with the elimination of entire group of HM outfit in Chattro area, Mohammed Qasim, the slain militant, was tasked to revive the organization’s net work by luring and motivating youth to join militancy in the year 2007. He was also responsible for launching attacks on security forces, besides resorting to extortions, kidnappings and motivating the youth for anti-national activities.
One pistol along with magazines, one Chinese Grenade, one mobile phone and some incriminating documents were seized from the possession of the slain militant, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the surrender of two top commanders at Reasi along with large quantity of arms and ammunition has given a great jolt to the HM militant outfit in the state.
SSP Reasi, J L Sharma said the surrender of these top commanders was the outcome of concerted efforts of the army and the local police, who motivated the militants through their parents and relatives and mounted pressure on them to shun the path of terrorism and join the national mainstream to get benefits under the government’s surrender policy.
The surrendered militants have been identified as Mumtaz Ahmed district commander and s/o Ali Mohammed of Tharoo Kund Mahore and self styled commander Asigan Ahmed code Arslan son of Mohammed Sultan of Kanthi Mahore. They handed over two AK riles, six magazines, one wireless set, 342 AK rounds, 116 SLR rounds, 52 .303 rounds, nine Pika rounds, Two INSAS rounds and 107 electric detonators .
Some more arrests and recoveries are likely to be made on the disclosures of the surrendered ultras, said SSP Reasi. The Commanding Officer 54 RR, senior officers of BF 12th Bn and 182 Bn were also present during the surrender.
