One of the Ministers in the coalition government belonging to the Congress has gone berserk, wild and tearing. He is running amuck, rioting and storming –these are all the words which dictionary describes someone being on rampage and having lost control over nerves.
The Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Ghani Vakil, who is known for pro-Azad and anti-all discourse is on “rampage” –it has been officially confirmed by the government. You must be surprised to learn this, but this is not finding of this newspaper. In fact the official media of the government, the Department of Information, in its daily bulletin has said today that Vakil is on “rampage”. The press note number “PR/DI/2008/ 4414 /desk/jugal/pps”, issued here this evening has a heading, “Vakil on rampage against politics of skullduggery -Says Azad restored lost glory of Congress in JK”.
The dictionary says that when someone is on rampage, he probably has lost control over the senses. Since the description offered by the Information Department about Minister’s state of mind was little doubtful, the dictionary had to consulted for further understanding. The dictionary meaning of the someone being on rampage further says, “to go through an area making a lot of noise and causing damage”. To further explain “rampage” by putting it in a sentence, the dictionary says, the demonstrators rampaged through the town, smashing windows and setting fire to cars”. Was the Social Welfare Minister Abdul Ghani Vakil on a similar rampage?
Interestingly, for last few days Vakil has been going gaga against the Peoples Democratic Party accusing it of weakening the initiatives of the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Today’s official handout of Vakil informed, asking the people to reject the politics of skullduggery practiced by a group of politicians on Kashmir issue, Minister for Social Welfare and Senior JKPCC Vice President said "emotional blackmailing for vote bank has remained unfortunate part of the state politics. The chapter should now be closed forever as their was no taker for double speak", he added.
Addressing a public meeting at Damhal-Hanjipora in Kulgam district today, Mr. Vakil questioned "how long people could be misled over the Kashmir issue. They have realized the fact and understood the tactics of politicians who befooled them all along for personal ends".
Giving all credit to Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for nurturing the realistic and people friendly policy, he said, under the leadership of Mr. Azad the lost glory of Congress got rejuvenated in the state and the image of the party got catapulted by the historic achievements registered in the field of peace and development during Azad led Congress government.
Mr. Vakil listed the innovative and historic measures taken by Congress led coalition government in the State, saying that 60 years record on development front has been broken, making progress buzz word across the State.
Referring to creation of new administrative units and enactment of Roshni Scheme, he said "these path breaking decisions not only broke the stalemate over Wazir Commission recommendations but fulfilled the cherished desire of people. Farmers for the first time acquired ownership rights free of cost on 22 lakh kanals of State land under the Roshni Scheme", he maintained.
He said "people have realized the keenness of Congress to develop State on fast track and provide equal opportunities of development to all regions and areas, as such, these are gravitating towards the party and its leadership".
