Kavinder assumes charge; accorded welcome

BJP leader and newly elected Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Kavinder Gupta today afternoon officially took charge of the office. Earlier, in the morning, an impressive car and scooter rally starting from the party headquarters and culminating at Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk was taken out, where hundreds of party activists, including Corporators, joined the carvan of vehicles.
BJP State President Ashok Khajuria and party MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma along with Kavinder Gupta led the rally in an open vehicle and after passing through main bazars, reached JMC premises. Ashok Khajuria, Kavinder Gupta and Jugal Kishore Sharma were given warm and rousing receptions at different places by Presidents of various Bazar Associations including Parade, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, Old Hospital Road, City Chowk, Shalimar Road, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Shaheedi Chowk, Residency Road, Raghunath Mandir and Hari Market.
The rally finally reached JMC premises, where the outgoing Mayor Narinder Singh and JMC Commissioner Vinod Gupta welcomed Kavinder Gupta and escorted him to the chair of Mayor.
Ashok Khajuria, while congratulating Kavinder Gupta on assuming the chair of Mayor for the second time, said that the policies of the Congress-led coalition towards Jammu are known and we all have to get united to defeat Congress, PDP, NC and all such other parties which have no concern for the Jammu. He said the families of slain militants are more dear to the state as well as the central government and the nationalist people have no place in their scheme of things. He assured BJP’s full support to the genuine demands of the striking SRTC employees and those of clerical cadre and impressed upon immediate fulfillment of their demands. He said the coming elections will prove to be waterloo for the Congress and BJP will play a very decisive role in government formation in the state.
In his first address to the party acvtivists and media persons, Kavinder Gupta said that he is committed for the over all development of Jammu city and make it a beautiful city. My work should bring respect to the party and the chair and for that i needs co-operation of all the Corporators irrespective of their political affiliations, he said. Kavinder Gupta asked the state government to be impartial in allocating funds for the JMC so that the Corporation is in a position to take up the development-related works and complete in time.
Former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Member National Executive & former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh, State Vice-President Smt. Suresh Jamwal and State Gen. Secretary Shamsher Singh Manhas had also reached the Mayor’s chamber to greet Kavinder Gupta on the occasion.
A number of other party leaders S. Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Yudhvir Sethi, Balbir Ram, Parmod Kapahi, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Gupta, Smt. Usha Choudhary, Pawan Khajuria, N.D. Rajwal, Rakesh Gupta, Vinod Gupta, Subash Jandial, Karan Singh, Ramesh Sharma, Vinay Gupta, Chander Mohan Gupta, Pardeep Sharma, Munish Sharma and all the BJP Corporator also extended their greetings to Kavinder Gupta.
