| Hockey players hold protest, demand Gill’s resignation | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 10 Hockey players, who practice the game at Green Field ground, here held protest demonstration demanding resignation from the president of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), KPS Gill in the wake of India’s failure to qualify for the Olympics. Angry over the poor management at the national level to promote the National Game of Hockey, the protesters said that they want a chance at the country level. “A game which has won six consecutive gold for the country in the Olympics and never missed a berth in the Olympics for the last 80 years, is in pain,” said a hockey player pleading anonymity. He maintained that hockey has suffered not because of the players but due to the `dictatorship’ of some individuals at the national level and `so called’ promoters of the game at the state and club level. It is pertinent to mention here that India lost to Great Britain 0-2 in the qualifying round for the Beijing Olympics yesterday. |
