Drabu breaks his silence, slams Mehbooba Mufti
9/14/2018 10:52:57 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Sept 14: Formally announcing the differences with the Peoples' Democratic Party leadership, former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu slammed Mehbooba Mufti on Friday.
On March 13, PDP president and the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti dropped Drabu from the Cabinet over his remarks that that the situation in the state shouldn't be seen as a political problem.
"Jammu and Kashmir shouldn't be seen as a conflict state or a political problem, but as a society with social issues," Drabu had said while addressing the "Ambassadors' Meet" hosted by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi on March 9. Since March 13 after his dropping, he never participated in party meetings.
While breaking his silence for the first time since he was dropped, Drabu Friday tweeted "Repulsive how paratroopers with proximity to Mehbooba Mufti in power are now trashing her. With benefit of hindsight all are wise to say they should have resigned. Point is they didn't. I did. From Cabinet, Assembly and party 8 months before being dropped. But that's another story."
The difference grew between the PDP-BJP after his dropping from the cabinet that was then led by Mehbooba Mufti. On September 7, Mehbooba nominated Drabu and Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari as members of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party. However, in a setback, Drabu the next day declined his nomination to the PAC, the highest decision making body of the party.
The letter addressed by Drabu to Mehbooba reads: "I thank you for the nomination but regret my inability to be part of PAC. I will continue to work as I have in the past for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir."
Alleging political appeasement, Drabu in his letter said, "The ongoing party reorganization and reconstitution of the PAC appears more a political appeasement than atonement."
Reminding Mehbooba Mufti that he was inducted into the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) immediately after joining the party in the year 2014 by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Drabu in his letter said, "I know the value and significance of being a member of PAC."
Drabu had concluded his letter with the words: "I wish the party a positive and purposeful political deliberation for the future of the party and people of the state."
