| Vakil lauds information deptt for projecting Govt achievements | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 10 “The government has sanctioned Rs. 50 crore for covering maximum poor children under nutrition programme in the state while as Rs. 20 crore have been earmarked for pension to the widows, orphans, old age and destitutes”. This was stated by Minister for Social Welfare Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil here today. He was addressing a seminar on “Achievements of government” organized by the Information Department at Housing Cooperative Hr. Secondary Public School Sidhra near here. Lauding the Information Department for making the people aware of achievements of the government at all levels, Mr. Vakil emphasized upon the organizers to arrange for more such informative programmes in the educational institutions. He said that dissemination of information especially students was a must to keep them abreast with the developments taking place in the state. Mr. Vakil said the strenuous efforts of coalition government have brought a discernable change in every parameter of education and other vital sectors of development. He said that the government has opened 40 degree colleges in to make higher education easily accessible to the students of hilly and far-flung areas. Besides, scores of schools have been upgraded and opened. Elucidating the numerable strides made in various fields, Mr. Vakil said that creation of 8 new districts was one of the most significant and historical achievement of Azad led government. “Likewise, implementation of Roshni Scheme has given a new life to the farmers community of the state by conferring ownership rights to the farmers”, he added. Under Social Welfare sector, he said 7000 Anganwari centre have been opened in Phase-I besides 6500 centres are being opened in Phase-II which will empower the women folk besides making them self reliant. He said that other sectors like power, health, horticulture, agriculture, PHE, irrigation and allied sectors also witnessed a remarkable improvement. Joint Director of Information Jammu Mr. S. K. Sharma was also spoke on the occasion said that the department of Information was disseminating the educative and informative data of achievements registered in the state during last 5 years. He said that exhibitions, photo shows, cultural programmes have been organized across the state besides publishing special magazines in Urdu, Hindi, English, Dogri and Kashmiri languages. School children and Cultural Unit of Information Department presented colourful cultural programmes. Later, the Minister distributed prizes among the position holders of debate. Miss Manavi of 7th class bagged Ist Prize while Mr. Sameer of 7th and Miss Toyaba got 2nd and 3rd prize of debate competition. Among others who were present on the occasion include Principal Miss Vandana Gupta, teachers, parents and students. |
