| Hurriyat fails to establish its network in Jammu and Ladakh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER SRINAGAR | AUGUST 27
The APHC plan of establishing its peoples’ representative character in the Jammu and Ladakh regions have so far failed. The leaders of the separatist conglomerate have not been in a position in set up the party units in the winter capital and other five district headquarters. On the basis of its failure to achieve the peoples ’representative character in Jammu and Ladakh regions political leaders, besides the established in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir consider the All Party Hurriyat Conference to be a representative of only people of Kashmir. When the APHC team, led by its chairman Molvi Umar Farooq, had visited Pakistan and occupied Kashmir over a year ago they were plainly told that they should establish their representative character in Jammu and Ladalh regions.win this context that Molvi Umar Farooq had visited Jammu,R.S.Pora several months ago but he had failed to set the river Tawi on fire during his visit. He,no doubt, was the first separatist leader he succeeded in addressing a largely attended public rally in the city,he lost his nerves when he found the response to his public meeting in R.S.Pora discouraging. He had announced that he would be visiting Poonch,Rajouri,Doda and other areas for what he called an interaction with people so that he was able to explain his stand on the Kashmir issue. The purpose of this visit was to secure peoples’support for the APHC but on the basis of the feedback he received he could not fulfill his commitment of touring various areas in the Jammu region nor was he able to establish APHC unit in Ladakh. But the Hurriyat leaders do not see any reason for getting dejected or dismayed. They opine that their first task of establishing their credibility of representing the aspirations of people of Kashmir had been achieved and the task of making similar inroads in the Jammu and Ladakh regions was a matter of time.Reports said that the APHC leadership has not given up its plan of building a band of supporters in these two regions. In the light of the regional divide other separatist leaders, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Democratic Freedom Party Chief, Mr Shabir Ahmed Shah, too have failed to set up a well-knit network of their organizations in Jammu and Ladakh regions. And the same problem has been faced by Jamait-e-Islami. During its recent organizational election it could find 16 representatives from the Jammu region out of 126.Out of 16 only one member was elected from Jammu-Udhampur-Poonch-Rajouri belt and the remaining 15 were from Doda district indicating that the Jamaat had its support base only in Doda district. |
