Farooq raps Delhi
3/10/2008 11:33:43 PM

Jammu | Mar 10
Former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah is these days in full anti-Delhi mood. Till 2002, Dr Abdullah was perhaps the strongest votary of the central government despite the fact the autonomy proposal of the National Conference was dismissed in three minutes.
Holding Delhi squarely responsible for all ills Jammu and Kashmir has gone and is going through, Dr Abdullah during his last visit to the town had observed that the central government does not want peace in the state. Today he has said that the Center was merely buying time for the elections and was in no mood to make any breakthrough.
“the way New Delhi is delaying resolution of Kashmir issue it appears that it doesn’t want to resolve issue of Kashmir and is only buying time as elections are nearing in the state”, Dr Farooq told reporters on the sidelines of a function at the National Conference headquarters here today.
In response to a question on non implementation of the recommendations of the working groups and delay caused in convening meeting of the crucial centre state relations working group, Dr Abdullah said if New Delhi was serious in its approach it would not have wasted time in settling the Kashmir issue when Pak President General Pervez Musharraf was all powerful man at the helm.
“ I have serious doubts in mind whether New Delhi is really going to do anything concrete on resolving Kashmir issue”. Referring to recommendations of the working group he said the reports are lying with the Prime Minister but he is silent and doing nothing concrete. Doubting New Delhi’s intentions Dr Farooq Abdullah said elections are round the corner in Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi might be thinking that it is appropriate to announce the sops ahead of elections in order to gain vote. Speaking frankly Dr Abdullah said that when New Delhi made Justice Sageer Ahmed as chairperson of the centre–state working group he doubted their intentions why are they making a Muslim head of such a crucial working group. “I was sure the decision will have far reaching repercussions and the same is happening.
Commenting on the expulsion of the PDP leader Ghulam Hassan Mir from the party Dr Abdullah said it is not appropriate for him to comment on the internal affairs of the PDP. On the question of formation of third front, Dr Abdullah said it is too early to comment on the nucleus of third front. He however welcomed any such move saying that is a clear sign that democratic process is taking deep roots in the state and all those people who want to join the political arena are welcome to do so. He said all those people who will fail to gain mandate of the congress, PDP and National conference will flock Third front to try their luck. On the performance of the Cong-PDP coalition government in the state Dr Abdullah said that the coalition government has been a total failure in all sphere. A high level team of central government officers has recently visited the state and passed certain strictures against the working of the coalition government. Dr Abdullah said if he would have been at the helm he would have submitted his resignation. On the issue of safe passage to misguided youth waiting across the line of control to come back, Dr Abdullah said it is a human problem and the final decision whether to provide them safe passage or not should be taken after reviewing pros and cons of taking such a step. He said intelligence agencies have different view point on the issue and it cannot be ruled out.
