| Residents protest over pollution from nullah | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 11 Large number of residents living in the Mohinder Nagar, New Mohinder Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar, Doctors lane near canal road and adjoining areas are facing hardships due to continuous flow of polluted water in the nullah for over 48 hours yet concerned authorities are sleeping. Foul smell emanating from the nullah is making it difficult for the local residents to come out of their houses without covering their faces. Residents in the area have also developed fears that the water is chemically treated and may lead to spread of skin and water borne diseases in the area. The situation aggravated on Tuesday when large number of women accompanied by their family members came out on the streets and staged a protest demonstration. On inquiry it was found that the water discharged from the pond near Regional research laboratory is finding its way in the nullah and is making life miserable for the local residents. Local corporator Pramod Kapahi when contacted said that the residents in the area are facing difficult times as the continuous flow of polluted water is spreading foul smell in the area and is making life difficult for the local residents. He said he has apprised Mayor Mr Kavinder Gupta about the problem and has also brought the problem in to the notice of the health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma but there is no end to their miseries. |
