9/18/2018 10:49:51 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 18: The villagers along with some social activist today expressed concern over the J&K State forest corporation for allowing illegal felling of trees in and around their village forests.
Addressing the media activist said that incident took place in three Panchayats/Village viz., Nail, Banhore andDambra of tehsil Mahanpurof District Kathua. The J & K State forest corporation, west circle Jammu, issued an auction notice declaring auction of the Marked trees of Eucalyptus, ShishamBambo, and other broad leaved trees in the standing form (in-situ) on the basis of "As it is, where it is", vide letter no 43-55/GM/W/SFC/J dated 15.02.2017.
As the matter came into the notice of villagers, they quickly approached to Honorable Deputy Commissioner, Kathua and requested him to stop the felling of trees and help them in conserving their forest. On the directions of Honorable Deputy Commissioner, Naib Teshildar Mahanpur, visited the spot and clearly established that the contractor to whom the corporation granted permission was involved in excessive/unauthorized felling of trees in the presence of forest officials. The report clearly mentioned that "it has been observed in the report that 78 number of trees under 0.10 Diar were found felled/cut apart from 2500 others between 10-20 Dia.
The work order categorically contained an instruction saying that the 0.10 Dia class should not be felled/eel". Even after this no action was taken by the authorities and the felling of trees remained continue. Social Activist Sanjeev Gupta Filed a petition before the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir at Jammu, requesting to stop the felling of trees and also submitted the Report of the revenue department in which the contractor was mentioned guilty.
