| Natrang honours theatre personalities | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 11 Natrang honoured two eminent theatre personalities of the India here today at a function held at Natrang studio, theatre here today. Both the personalities Dulal Roy from Assam and Jayashree from Karnataka on presently Jammu visit in convection with a festival of theatre organized by Sangeet Natak Akdademi, New Delhi in collaboration with J&K Cultural Academy. Welcoming the guests Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that Jammu is privileged to have the presence of internationally acclaimed theatre directors who will be here for a week and will enlighten all the theatre artists of J&K with their rich and vast theatre experience. Speaking about Dulal Roy, a national school of drama graduate (1966) has also graduate from film and television institute of India (1970) with specialization in film editing. A Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee for direction in theatre has also received five state awards. Having directed 75 plays, Dulal Roy is one of the legendary and towering theatre personality of the country who gave a new identity to Assamee theatre who also has eight published plays to his credit. Retired as director culture, Assam Govt. he has contributed a lot to the development of Assamee language and culture. Jayashree, primarily an accomplished stage actress of Karnatka is also the product of National School of Drama. Honoured with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award., Jayashree as a theatre director is known for evolving a new language for theatre. Her theatre products have been staged in most of the international theatre events. She also received national ward as best supporting actress for the film Nagmandlam, directed by Girish Kanad. Earlier, Jugal Kaul a senior artist of Natrang dwelt in detail about the theatre scene of Jammu and Kashmir and the role of Natrang in giving a new identity to the theatre of this region at national and international level. Natrang in past twenty four years has working tirelessly to raise the professional standards of the theatre both in quality and quantity. Today Jammu is known as one of the most theatre happening place in the country and Natrnag shares the major contribution to it. Both the visiting directors appreciated the efforts of Natrang in vibrating the theatre scene of the country. Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Jairoop Jeewan from Snageet Natak Akademim New Delhi, Bhawani Yasir, Vijay Malla, Arving Anand, Kumar A Bharti, Gulshan Badrni and prominent all members of Natrang. |
