Welcoming the statement of Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, desiring setting aside the Kashmir issue and focusing on other aspects for improving relations with India, several leaders of Jammu State Morcha (Progressive) in a joint statement regretted opposition by some based Kashmir based leaders and separatist outfits.
Prof Virender Gupta, President, Abdul Rouf Ganai and H B Khajuria vice Presidents, Dig Vijay Singh secretary, Devinder Singh jamwal general secretary and Chandra Udhay Sharma, secretary in their joint statement said that the statement of Zardari needs to be welcomed by all the peace loving of both the countries, particularly the people of both the parts of Jammu and Kashmir, who are suffering from the menace of terrorism and unstable conditions.
Zardari, the statement said, has emphasized that ‘the relations between India and Pakistan should not be held hostage to the so-called Kashmir issue and the two countries could wait so that future generations resolve the dispute in a mature manner in an atmosphere of trust’.
The statement regretted that it was surprising and unfortunate that Kashmiri leaders, some militant outfits and also the so- called mainstream parties like PDP and NC have opposed the statement and it is evident that these leaders want the Kashmir pot boiling, militancy to continue and confrontation between India and Pakistan to persist as it served their vested interests.
JSM leaders were also very critical of the fact that while one side the leaders of the political parties including NC and PDP were criticizing the statement of Raj Thakrey and Bal Thakrey, on the other, they allow Jammu and Kashmir to have a constitutional status where no non subject is allowed to settle and those WP refugees of 1947 denied their fundamental rights. The statement further alleged that the Kashmiri leaders did not allow any of the refugees from PoK including from Muzaffarbad to settle down in the Valley and conspired the migration of Dogras, Punjabis and Kashmir Pandits too out of the Valley after 1947 so much so the state subject holders of Jammu were not practically allowed to settle in the Valley, the memorandum further alleged.
