An era of Aya Ram Gaya Ram is born in Jammu and Kashmir with several mainstream political organizations on a “poaching spree.” As the dates for the Assembly poll are nearing the National Conference, the PDP, the Congress, the Panthers Party and the BJP have resorted to wooing workers and political activists to their fold.
The PDP, which took birth six years ago, had been formed with defections mainly from the Congress, the National Conference. Most of the prominent Congress leaders had joined their hands with Mufti Mohd.Sayeed when he floated the PDP. The Mufti had succeeded in wooing senior congress leaders to his party as he had headed the PCC for several years and had close equation with them even after he had joined the Jana Morcha and later Janata Dal.Within two years of his chief Ministership the Mufti succeeded in winning over the support of two senior National Conference leaders,Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari,and Dilawar Mir.
With the election dates drawing near besides new permutation and combinations the level of poaching in each others’ territory has increased. The PDP received a setback when six PDP leaders,including Sadiq Ali,a former MLA,crossed from the PDP to the National Conference.The National Conference had already admitted in the party Vikas Dutt,grandson of veteran Congress leader,TrilocahnDutt,and General secretary PDP,Romesh Mottan.
Even as partners in the ruling coalition the Congress and the PDP have not hesitated in poaching in each others’ territory. Several Congress activists have joined the PDP in various parts of the state in recent months. The Panthers Party too has been in the race for wooing activists from other parties. Harsh Dev Singh, a senior Panthers Party leader,said here today “we have enrolled activists from National Conference, BJP and maximum number from the BSP and the Congress.”
Harsh Dev Singh agreed that from now onwards the era of Aya Ram and Gaya Ram will remain a major political phenomenon.
The BJP Chief,Ashok Khajuria said “we have enrolled a large number of activists from other parties in Jammu,Rajouri and Samba in recent weeks.” He said that within a day or two prominent political activists,including those who had parted company with the BJP,were to join hands “with us.”
The expulsion of Ghulam Hassan Mir from the PDP and the plan of forming the third front is likely to further raise the level of Aya Ram Gaya Ram in Jammu and Kashmir.Mr Mir is on a poaching spree and his aim is to get to his fold as many PDP activists and leaders as possible.On the other hand some prominent National Conference leaders,including former legislators,were being wooed to join the PDP.
Political analysts said that soon after mainstream political parties started allotting party tickets it would again open the door for the Aya Ram Gaya Ram era. Explaining this they said that there were a large number of aspirants for the Congress, the PDP and the National Conference tickets and those denied may cross the sides. |
