| Football: JKFA receives 30 entries for State Meet | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 11 Jammu and Kashmir Football Association has received 30 entries from the affiliated district units and other professional clubs and departmental teams of the state for the State Championship starting from March 15. Earlier planned to conduct the mega event at the Mini-Stadium Parade, the JKFA has shifted the venue of the championship to University of Jammu ground. “We could not get the permission for Mini Stadium Parade because the ground has already been reserved for undisclosed purpose by the J&K State Sports Council,” organizing secretary of the championship, Shiv Paul Sharma told Sports & Allied News. Since the organizers have been allotted the University ground for eight days only, the organizing committee has decided to hold at least four matches at day so as to complete the fixture in the given time. “We have been allotted the venue for eight days only by the University authorities. Accordingly, the organizing committee has planned the event. There will be four matches at day up to the quarterfinals stages,” informed Sharma. To finalize the arrangements and draw the fixtures, the organizing committee members met here this afternoon under the chairmanship of organizing secretary. “Today’s meeting held to look into the entries received. The draws shall be finalized by tomorrow morning to prepare fixture for the event,” said Shiv Paul, who is also resident secretary of the JKFA Jammu wing. SRINAGAR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: General Secretary of the JKFA, Bashir Malik has said that 30 teams representing all the district units (accept the new) and other departmental teams and professional clubs including J&K Bank and Maharaja Sports have confirmed their entries. The winner of last state championship held in 2005, the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) and the runners-up, Maharaja Sports have already submitted their entries for the state championship. It may be recalled that in the last edition of the state meet, the J&K Bank could not field its team because of its pre-occupation outside the state. |
