| Bhaderwah University Campus to function from next month | | Admission process nearing completion | | JAVID AHMAD EARLY TIMES REPORTER

The newly set up campus of University of Jammu is expected to start academic functioning at Bhaderwah in Doda district from next month for which all the requisite infrastructure has been put in place .The admission process for various courses is likely to be completed by the end of the current month. This was disclosed by the Rector of the new campus Dr. Irshad Ahmad Hammal, a well- known academician and Prof. of Botany in University of Jammu. In recognition of his good performance, the Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Matto has shifted him to newly set up campus to take up the challenging assignment. Dr Irshad said several professional and vocational courses like MBA, MCA, MA in English are being introduced in the newly set up campus in the first phase, besides a certificate course in E-Learning for women to make them computer literate. For admission in MBA course, he said, that only those candidates were selected who had qualified the All India level test for admissions (MAT), while for MCA and E-learning, University Jammu would be conducting the required screening test for candidates while as for M.A English, the admissions would be strictly according to the merit. Disclosing about the availability of seats in the newly introduced courses, Dr. Irshad said that there are 20 seats for each course while only 10 seats are for E-learning course exclusively for women. He said the course is of short duration of three months and would be conducted in shifts. Maintaining coherence with the set norms of the Jammu University, he said there would be reservation quota, as usual i.e. 33 per cent and 67 per cent adding that 25 per cent of the seats in English have been reserved for the candidates belonging to Doda district .He said admission process for MBA and MA English has already been completed while as the process for MCA will be completed by the end of the current month. Giving details about the infrastructure that has been put in place for the campus, he said that four private buildings have been hired in Bhaderwah town itself. All the buildings have been renovated and the requisite teaching and other material put in place for the smooth conduct of the classes. These hired buildings would cater to the needs of newly set up campus for the establishment of teaching department, Administration block, Rector's Office, Faculty and boys hostel. He, however, maintained that a building for housing girls hostel is being hired shortly in the vicinity of the existing make shift campus. He said that an Academic Coordinator would be looking after academic affairs whereas Assistant Registrar will be responsible for administration and other allied matters. He also informed that proper landscaping has been done in the surrounding of the existing make shift campus to make it conducive for the academic excellence. Referring to the construction of the new campus, he said, tenders have already been floated and the work on this prestigious project spreading over 20,000 square feet is expected to start shortly. He said that about 1000 kanals of land has been acquired for setting up this campus and maintained that it has been made possible only due to the personal intervention of the Chief Minister and the Vice Chancellor Jammu University. |
