Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today laid the foundation stone of Rs. 16 crore motorable Trungal bridge in Ramban constituency and said his government is providing equal opportunities of development to all the three regions of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. The 325-meter long single-span bridge over the ferocious Chenab will be the first of its kind in the State. The facility, connecting the two banks of the river near Assar, will benefit a population of about one lakh in the villages sitting on either side of the Chenab. The bridge, to be completed in one year, will restore the connectivity between the two flanks of the river suspended due to the submergence of two foot suspension bridges in the area under the pondage of the Baglihar hydel power project. Another foot suspension bridge is being constructed at Marsoo. Accompanied by the Minister for R&B, Jugal Kishore and MLA Doda, Abdul Majid Wani, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of the 20.50 km Doda-Bharat road in Doda constituency. The single lane road to benefit a population of about 30,000, will be constructed in two phases at a total cost of Rs. 22.45 crores. In the initial phase, the first 12.5 kms of road will be constructed. The J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) is executing the project which will be completed by December next year. The Chief Minister addressed large public meetings at Assar, Shaie and Trown villages in Doda district and laid emphasis on the need for and his government's commitment to better road connectivity, especially in areas located in the mountains. He said his focused attention on road infrastructure development, supported by liberal central assistance, will see the State's all villages connected with block and tehsil headquarters in the next four to five years. He asked engineers and related personnel to ensure speedy completion of development projects so that benefits accrue to the people on ground without long wait. He also called upon people to remain vigilant and said that while appreciating good work they should also keep an eye on poor quality or lax work, adding that his aim is to ensure that funds earmarked for development activities are 100% utilised on these.
