| CM awards Rs.25000 to Natrang for its excellent performance | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | AUGUST 27 In appreciation of its excellent performance of the play 'Bawa Jitto' directed by Balwant Thakur, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has awarded RS.25000 to Natrang Jammu. The second half of the highly acclaimed Dogri play was performed on the occasion of Jashan-e-Jammu celebrations held at Abbinav theatre here yesterday. The play' Bawa Jitto based on a 15th century folk tale has been adapted in Dorgi by Prof Ram Nath Shastri and is credited for being the first play of the State which brought the theatre of Jammu and Kashmir to the national limelight. Known for the highly innovative and creative direction of Balwant Thakur, this play has been staged for over 100 times including 20 national theatre festivals held at Delhi, Bhopal, Lucknow, Shimla, Chandigrah, Ambala, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Goa, Nanital and Trivendrum. Following announcement of the award, a meeting of the artists was held here today at Natrang studio in which the artists expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for encouraging the artist community. Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that such gestures of the government would go a long way in strengthening the cultural movement in the State. He also appreciated Prof Bhim Singh for creating such avenues for the artists' performance. |
