Government College for Women (GCW) Parade dominated the opening day of the 35th Inter-College Annual Athletics Meet with Kiran Kumari winning two gold medals for the college at University fields, here today.
Kiran bagged two out of the five gold medals decided in the women section today with GCW Parade winning three. Third gold for GCW Parade came through Payal Choudhary in Shot Put. Kiran won her first gold in High Jump, followed by the second in Broad Jump.
The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments and GCW Gandhi Nagar were trailing behind in women section with one gold medal each.
In men’s section, PG Departments, Government SPMR College of Commerce and GGM Science College shared one gold medal each on the opening day of the annual meet.
Organised by the Department of Physical Education of the University of Jammu, the three-day event was declared open by the Minister for Industries and Commerce, Nawang Rigzin Jora in a well attended function on the campus this morning. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Amitabh Mattoo presided over the inaugural function.
Earlier, Director Physical Education, Prof Lokesh Verma presented a detailed report of the athletics meet as also other activities of the departments.
Prominent among others present were Prof BPS Sehgal, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof G S Sambyal, Registrar, Prof Kiran Sumbli, Prof J R Dhotra, Prof Narendra Tripathi and senior members of the staff and contingent incharge from the participating colleges.

MEN: 10,000 mts race: Pritam Kumar, PG Departmetns, Ist; Sohan Lal, Degree College Akhnoor, 2nd; Devinder Singh, MAM College, third and Irshad Ahmed (Degree College Rajouri, fourth. Broad Jump: Vikesh Kumar, Commerce College, Ist; Vinod Singh, Degree College Kathua, 2nd and Opinder Paul Singh, PG Departments, third. Shot Put: Amandeep Singh, Science College, Ist; Sarfraz Choudhary, MAM College, 2nd and Farhan Mirza, PG Departments, third.
WOMEN: High Jump: Kiran Kumari, GCW Parade, Ist; Manpreet Kour, GCW Parade, 2nd and Seema Parihar, MIER College, third. Shot Put: Payal Choudhary, GCW Parade, Ist; Seema Bishnoi, MIER College, 2nd and Nafasha, PG Departments, third. Javelin Throw: Natasha, PG Departments, Ist; Mamta Sharma, GCW Parade, 2nd and Ragani Rajput, GCW Parade, third.
