Expressing grave concern over the failure of the Congress-led governments at the centre and in the state to provide jobs and check the price-rise of essential commodities, including food items, medicines, steel, cement, the State BJP President Ashok Khajuria said today that the slogan ‘Congress ka haath, gareeb ke saath’ has remained on papers only due to anti-poor policies of the Congress-led UPA. In just four years, the prices of the essential items have touched new heights.
Addressing media persons here the BJP Chief said ‘it is not for the first time that the prices of essential items have gone up manifold. A glance at the past reveals that whenever Congress has come to power, it has happened’. He alleged that the Congress has always promoted the cause of a handful of capitalists, black marketers and hoarders at the cost of poor Indians.
Khajuria said the people of the state still remember the 2002 elections in which the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had made a categorical promise to provide job to at least one member in each family in the state. It won 16 seats and headed the coalition for the first three years but did nothing to fulfill its promise. The situation is such now that the highly educated youth is sitting on hunger strikes, organizing dharnas and even making attempts of self-immolation in frustration in absence of any job avenues. Unemployed engineers are sitting on dharna for the last 346 days while ITI Diploma Holders are on dharna for the last 343 days. Home Guards are on agitation for their regularization. It seems that there is no governance and is, not for common masses but busy in looting and fleecing hard earned public money.
The State BJP warns the Congress-led coalition in the state not to test the patience of the youth, poor and nationalist people and take immediate effective steps to provide respite to the youth and control the prices. The State BJP will expose this anti-people, pro-militant and corrupt coalition government in the coming elections and see to it that people-centric government is installed, the party chief said.
