PIL seeks implementation of ban on cigarette ads

A petition in the larger interest of the public has been filed today in the State High Court, seeking implementation of prohibition of advertisement and regulation of Trade and Commerce Production Supply and Distribution Act and rules regarding cigarette and other tobacco products.
The petition filed by one Amit Chouhan, claiming to be a social activist, seeks direction to the Union of India through Secretary Ministry of Health and Family Welfare New-Delhi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary J&K Health and Medical Education and State Commissioner-cum-Secretary Law Department and all other concerned law enforcement agencies to take immediate meaningful measures to unconditionally implement the provisions of cigarettes and other tobacco products (prohibition of advertisement and regulation of trade and commerce production, supply and distribution) Act 2003 r/w Rules 2005 and report compliance of the steps and measures provided in the Act and Rules to High Court.
