| Shrine board meeting soon to decide pilgrimage dates | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 12 Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine board Governor SK Sinha is expected to chair a meeting of the board to fix the calendar of the annual pilgrimage next month. Official sources said, the Shrine Board authorities are once again in favour of extending the annual yatra period to two months so that more pilgrims could offer prayers. Governor,Mr S.K.Sinha,who heads the Board had been instrumental in getting the yatra period extended from one to two months.Last year the holy cave was thrown open for pilgrims from June 30 and the yatra ended on August 28. Indications are during the current year the yatra may start from the middle of June so that there was no melting of the ice lingam inside the cave.Besides this the Shrine Board has planned to raise a railing around the ice lingam so that no pilgrim visiting the cave could tamper with the lingam. Last year the Board the Government received complaints that the early melting of the ice lingam was the result of tampering when pilgrims continued to touch it with their hands.
