The government decision of halting the recruitment process, has given National Conference president Omar Abdullah a food for thought.
Omar, who is on an extended tour of Kathua district, is making it a point to tell the people that the government decision to put brakes on the employment is politically motivated. Addressing a public meeting in Basohli, Omar termed the move as an election strategy of the ruling alliance at the cost of unemployed youth.
Omar said that the recent government order directing the administrative departments to stop referring the vacancies to the recruitment agencies is the testimony of the government's functioning.
"It is clear that the government wants to befool the people with employment packages before the next assembly elections", Omar said adding; "The government stops the recruitment process so that the coalition alliance can vow voters with false promises".
He said National Conference apprehends that close to the election they will dole out employment on a pick and choose bases discarding merit and eligibility and indulge in nepotism and corruption to appease those who are related to the powers to be thereby depriving the eligible unemployed youth of their due.
This kind of election stunts, Omar said will harm the interest of the unemployed youth of the state who are already suffering due to the apathy of the present coalition government.
This is he said will jeopardize the entire employment process and will benefit only a few which will be a gross injustice to the rights of the youth of the state.
Expressing surprise over the move, Omar said that all this was being done at the cost of unemployed youth who were already facing hardship due to lack of employment avenues.
Omar added that National Conference will have special focus on the unemployed youth of the state. "We are formulating policy to meet the unemployment challenge as youth will have a special focus in our election manifesto", he added.
Coming down heavily upon the coalition alliance, Omar observed that the ruling coalition can go to any extent to remain in power. "There are every possibility that the government will jeopardize the role of Recruitment Board, which seems to be a design to adopt the policy of favoritism and nepotism in recruitment process".
He, however, added that government officials of the state have always hold high the rule of law by not succumbing to pressure. He appealed to the all government officers to live up to their reputation while being impartial and committed towards their duties like past.
Addressing to the local problems of the area, the NC president said "If we are returned to power by the people we will ensure that the area would be developed and brought on the tourist map. He said that NC will ensure that the Punjab government lives upto the promises made to the people displaced by the construction Ranjit Sagar dam.
"The areas neglected so far will get their due share in all the sectors especially developmental and employment", Omar added.
