| Separatists reject Soz’s offer on participating in the Assembly poll | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 13 The All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) will take final decision on the offer made by PCC President and Union Minister for Water Resources,Prof. Saifuddin Soz, that the mainstream political parties may be off the field if separatists decide to participate in the election process, after its chairman, Molvi Umar Farooq, returned from the US trip. Molvu Umar Farooq has been out of the state for the last over two months. However, a senior APHC leader, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, said today “our stand on participating in the Assembly poll process is already known.” He said “we had received offers for talking part in the election process in the past also but we are clear that we will not take part in the election till the Kashmir issue was settled.” He said that “our struggle is aimed at securing a honourable settlement of the Kashmir issue and not to seek power.” Another APHC leader and Chief of Democratic Freedom Party,Shabir Ahmed Shah, said “we are not going to take part in the election. However, if on one hand India and Pakistan hasten the process of dialogue for resolving the Kashmir issue and on the other hold the poll either under the UN supervision or under the eye of prominent jurists, intellectuals and political experts we may consider taking part in the poll process.” Indications are that not only the hardliners but the moderates in the separatist camp were not ready to accept Prof.Soz’s offer. They think that once they take part in the Assembly election the “ongoing struggle for settlement of the Kashmir issue”would get defeated. They are for boycotting the poll so that Delhi and Islamabad were f orced to resolve the Kashmir issue. |
