Chaman anguished over troops’ withdrawal

Former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has voiced his serious concern over the reports regarding withdrawal of troops from several militancy infected areas including Mendhar and Swarnkote as also from places in Rajouri bordering Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In a statement Prof. Gupta said that highly perturbing reports have been received from the local people of militancy infected areas that the security forces have been removed arbitrarily although armed terrorists still move in these areas making the life difficult for the nationalists. The fears amongst the nationalists are obvious because they have been extending their helping hand to the forces in tackling the menace of cross border terror and providing information about the movement of the ultras, he added and observed that some strange policies are being pursued by the coalitions of both that of the Centre and also the State.
He said that the removal/reduction of the forces indicates that the Congress leaders are buckling under various pressures, external as well internal, just to save their governments.
The BJP leader also assailed the coalition leadership for not providing timely allowance to the members of VDCs, especially the meagre salaries of the Special Police Officers (SPOs) working with various Village Defence Committees.
He said that the VDCs and SPOs have played a great role in fighting out the cross border terrorism. Hundreds of them have even sacrificed their lives. But it was highly deploreable that these brave men are not being paid small allowances and salaries for months together.
Prof. Gupta said that it goes to the credit of SPOs and VDCs in Doda District as also elsewhere that the migration was checked but for these VDCs/SPOs it was unfortunate that despite acknowledging the services of these patriotic people at the official level, they are not being paid their emoluments, not to say of increased one which were promised to them by the Congressmen at the time of last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
He said that it was highly intriguing to hold the emoluments of the VDCs/SPOs by the State Government although this entire amount it reimbursed by the Centre under the Security Related Expenditure.
