J&K ideal destination for world class golf tournaments: Azad

“Kashmir which is bestowed with celestial and divine beauty has potential to be abode of world class golf tourism in the world”, said Chief Minister while speaking on Greater Kashmir Invitational Golf Tournament at Srinagar Golf Club here today. He distributed prizes to viewing Greater Kashmir team and runners up Kashmir Golf Club team. Appreciating Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo Editor-in-Chief of Greater Kashmir for organizing the Golf Tournament, Chief Minister said that establishment of Royal Springs Golf courses was one of the important steps taken so far in promoting golf tourism. He appreciated former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah for his contribution in establishing Royal Springs Golf Club which is of international standards and has attracted world class golfers to the valley. He said so for this golf course is under utilized and steps are required to be taken for attracting reputed world class golf groups to organize golf tournaments. He hoped that Secretary Tourism who is dynamic officer shall work in this direction.
The Chief Minister said that he has after making personal servey of various areas reached to this conclusion that Bungus Valley and Doodipathri could prove ideal golf destinations of world class golfers who could come through helicopters and other facilities to these places for playing golf. He said golf is the richest source of tourism in the world at present and J&K State should take full benefit of present tourist trends and configurate its tourist activities accordingly. Captain of the Greater Kashmir Team Shafi Shaida received the trophy on behalf of the winning team of Greater Kashmir and Ashraf Bakshi on behalf of Kashmir Golf Club received runners up. Special prizes for winners were also gave away which includes Ghalib Mohi-ud-Din, Danish Aman, Riyaz Fazili, Wasim Khateeb of Greater Kashmir team.
besides prizes were given to Riyaz Fida, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, Parvez Naqeeb, Opinder Singh, suhail Naqashbandi, M. M. Afzal, Dr. M. Aslam and others.
MLA Ghulam Hassan Mir and Mohammad Dillawar Mir besides other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
