Jammu | Mar 14
Before acting tough the state government on Friday decided to give one more chance to the striking employees of the JK SRTC to resume their duties immediately failing which they will be dealt with sternly which may include their termination from the corporation services.
The state government also gave clear hints that if the agitating employees will continue to adopt agitational approach they may go for fresh recruitment to run the show of the ailing aorporation.
Addressing a press conference here today, Managing Director SRTC Manzoor Ahmad Lone impressed upon the striking employees to resume their duties in view of the agreement arrived at between the JK SRTC workers union and the government on March 10 or face termination.
Giving details of the loses due to strike, MD SRTC said 24 day old strike has brought SRTC to a grinding halt and now even the existence of the corporation is at stake,.
He said each day the corporation is losing up to Rs 15 lakh. In addition the entire fleet of the SRTC grounded for over three weeks need servicing/repair before making it road worthy. "We may have to pump several lakhs of rupees to run the corporation to its existing capacity,Lone said asking striking employees but who will provide money.
He said we have already suffered loses by way of losing important contracts and if we will continue to lose important contracts we will be grounded.
Lone said SRTC has already lost 2 crore contract with BEACON to private players, and suffered heavy loss of Rs 1.81 crore for failing to provide buses to different schools. he said even the future of Rs 13 crore contract with the Indian army may land in jeopardy as its final date is nearing.
"I suspect something really fishy behind the motive of the strike, MD SRTC said when he was asked to comment why striking employees are not resuming duties despite signing an agreement with the state government.
On the other hand responding to the state government stand chairman of the srtc workers union Shakeel Ahmad Kochay said that the state government is misleading us and using pressure tactics to break our unity. He said we had not adopted the agitational approach if the state govt had shown its willingness to address our concerns. He said the state government had tempered with the agreement arrived between the employees and the management and cannot be trusted.we doubt their intentions.
We wanted regularization of salaries from the current finalcial year but the state government instead of using from the current financial year stated in the agreement that it will be regularised for the current financial year.Secondly, he said the state government has agreed to release 42 COLA slabs w'e f 31-03-08 but later added that it will do so out of proceeds of economic assets of the corporation.
MD SRTC ,however, claimed that the state government was not dealing with them sternly and only taking sympathetic view to help t he employees.
It may be mentioned that the state government had earlier invoked the provisions of the Essential Services Maintenance Ordinance, asking the employees to resume their duties, or else they would be prosecuted under the provisions of this Ordinance on March 4.
