| After Lodhi’s revolt more defections from the PDP feared | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 15 Those PDP leaders who had no hope of getting the party mandate in the next election have started quitting the organization or were trying to build a camp of dissidents within the party. The latest to revolt against the PDP leadership is Bilal Lodhi who has berated a number of party MLAs for having built a coterie around Mufti Mohd.Sayeed and Ms Mehbooba Mufti resulting in damage to the democratic structure that existed in the PDP. Informed sources said that Bilal Lodhi raised the banner of revolt when he came to know that the PDP leadership would give the party mandate to Dr Mohd.Shafi who had recently resigned as Chief Medical officer, from Beerwah. This very fear had forced Sarfaraz Khan,a sitting PDP MLA from Beerwah,to join the PDP faction led by Ghulam Hassan Mir.The PDP leadership, according to the sources, have received a report from the constituency that Dr Mohd.Shafi had better victory chances in the next election than either Sarfaraz Khan or Bilal Lodhi. Even a former Minister,Sonaullah Dar,had also joined the Mir camp after he too had become sure that the PDP would give the party mandate to Mohd.Khalil Band, sitting MLA from Pulwama. When asked to comment on Bilal Lodhi’s banner of revolt raised against the Muftis Ghulam Hassan Mir said “more PDP leaders will desert the party shortly as they have been feeling suffocated by the dictatorial attitude of the PDP leadership.” Reports said that besides the Mir camp the National Conference too was trying to seek mileage by encouraging more defections from the PDP. However, senior PDP leaders were unmoved by the revolt raised by Bilal Lodhi saying that his dissent or defection “will have no impact on the party.” |
