| JSM (P) criticizes laying of Golf Course at Sidhra | | Describes proposal against SC ruling, violation of FCA | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 15 Strongly criticizing the government proposal for laying of a Golf Course on Forest land at Sidhra involving a cost of Rs 25 crore, the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) (Progressive) described the proposal as against the Supreme Court ruling and in gross violation of Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and demanded immediate shelving of the project. The Morcha after a meeting issued a statement denouncing the Government proposal of construction of 18- Hole Golf Course at Sidhra on an area of 1384 kanals of land, of which 1066 kanals are the forest land. The Morcha said that the project is not of urgent public nature and would not benefit the public in general adding instead would cater the pleasure of a few privileged individuals. The project, the Morcha said, is not a priority item when the government does not have sufficient funds to make payments to its employees. The money proposed to be spent on this project should be diverted to other works beneficial to the general masses, the Morcha demanded. Referring to the recent statements of National Conference leaders, Farooq Abdullah and his son and those of PDP leaders including Mufti Sayeed and his daughter showering promises to the public and assuring equitable treatment to the Jammuties, the Morcha described these as misleading, farce and a political gimmick to win back voters. ‘It is National Conference that is primarily responsible for discrimination against the people of Jammu region and for upsurge of militancy in the state’, the Morcha alleged in the statement. ‘The policies pursued by Mufti Sayed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti are also Kashmir centric and anti-Jammu’, the Morcha said and maintained that with exception of few all the Kashmiri leaders have always opposed the judicious representation of Jammu region in State Assembly, Civil Secretariat and other spheres. The statement also expressed its serious concern and resentment on the treatment meted out to the ex-servicemen by the state government who have been denied even the reservation in the state services and charged the government of being soft towards the militants. The meeting was among others attended by Prof Virender Gupta, H B Khajuria, Digvijay Singh, Devinder Singh Jamwal, Chandra Uday Sharma, Subash Baru and Balwinder Singh Jamwal. |
