| Thrilling win for DFA Poonch in State Football | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 15 Trailing by 2-1 at the end of first half, DFA (District Football Association) Poonch fought from behind to salvage a 6-5 win over Kartar Memorial Club Samba in the tie breaker thereby making it into the second round of 19th State Football Championship organized by Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) at University of Jammu ground, here today. Confident to win the match with a 2-1 lead, Samba boys left their defence scattered spending most of the time in opponent goal area in an attempt to improve the lead. Over confidence on part of Samba boys caused them dearly when Mushtaq Ahmed netted the ball finding the goal-keeper without much of defence around him in the 60th minute. Jatinder Singh opened the account for Samba Club in the 15th minute but only to see Rohit Sharma equalizing in the 25th minute. However, Neeraj helped Samba maintain the lead striking in the 30th minute. In the second half, Mushtaq scored the all important goal in the 60th minute to leave the score 2-2. Later, in the tie-breaker Poonch goal-keeper managed to stop the last penalty kick turning the match in their favour 6-5. Earlier, both the teams were introduced with the Inspector General of Police Crime and Railways, S P Vaid, who formerly declared open the championship in the evening. Earlier, first two matches of the day remained one-sided affairs with Jammu United blanked DFA Rajouri 8-0 and Engineers XI trounced DFA Udhampur 5-0. The third match of the day remained a low scoring game with Jammu Sports A registering win against DFA Kathua by a solitary goal made by Davian in the 69th minute. In the first match Jammu United beat DFA Rajouri 8-0. Raj Gopal (11th), Sunil Khajuria (15th and 52nd), Sanjay Khajuria (25th and 68th), Pawan Kumar (28th) and Shashi Kumar (33rd) were the scorers. The second match was won by Engineers Club beating DFA Udhampur 5-0. Jagtar Singh (14th), Kapil (26th and 45th) and Tushar (37th and 53rd) were the scorers. |
