SWD provides monthly pension to 10 non-pensioner widows of soldiers

JAMMU, Oct 15: To remind the nation of supreme sacrifices made by the soldiers, a programme was held here today at the office of Director Rajya Sainik Board. On the occasion District Development Commissioner (DDC) Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, was the chief guest. The programme was also attended by a large number of prominent citizens and NGOs who paid homage to sacrifices of the soldiers in a unique manner.
Director Rajya Sainik Board, Brig Harcharan Singh, explained that Sainik Welfare Department (SWD) J&K had started many programmes to remember supreme sacrifices made by our soldiers. In series of such initiatives, President of Old Age Home, (Jammu) ID Soni and his team members decided to support ten non-pensioner widows of soldiers, with a monthly pension of Rs 1000. This noble initiative was inaugurated by DDC Jammu and pension for August and September months was handed over to the non-pensioner widows.
Visit of houses of war widows by citizens was taken as another area of initiative. In this series, many functions have been organized by Sainik Welfare Department, in collaboration with NGOs and citizens. As many as four war widows were adopted today by team of doctors from Indira Gandhi Dental College Jammu consisting of Dr Ritesh Gupta, Dr Rakesh Gupta, Dr Bhavna Koul and Dr Manik Sharma.
