| CM asks students to excel in sports, strengthen cultural values | | MAM College Annual Day | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 17 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has called upon students to achieve excellence in sports and other extra-curricular activities along with academics and contribute in a big way to strengthening secular and moral values in the society. Addressing the Annual Day function of Government M. A. M. College here this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that the students should not only aspire for fetching good marks in examinations but also become stakeholders in development and progress of the State to make J&K economically self-reliant. He said they have a pivotal role in the transformation of the development profile of the State. Azad said that educational institutions have the onerous responsibility of imbibing high moral values among students in tune with our composite cultural ethos. He said the real aim of education has to be all round personality development of the students. He said the teachers and institutions have to groom them as responsible citizens to shoulder future responsibilities of nation building. The Chief Minister said that a chain of university campuses, degree colleges and professional and technical institutions has been put in place in Jammu & Kashmir during the past three and half years, laying foundations for making the State a knowledge hub. He advised the students to optimally benefit from this education revolution. He said along with other critical sectors, the creation of education infrastructure has been put on fast track to raise it within a definite time frame to enhance both reach and quality of education. Referring to the construction of auditorium in the college, the Chief Minister said that it would be speedily built. The Chief Minister congratulated the students on the Annual Day function and said that it is a great occasion for any institution. He gave away prizes to the students for achieving excellence in academic and extra-curricular activities. The Minister for Higher Education, Gulchain Singh Charak spoke about the historic initiatives taken by the government for promotion of higher education in the State by setting up 40 degree colleges and a number of university campuses to provide facilities of education to the students nearer to their homes. He also dwelt on the measures being taken for improving quality of education and strengthening infrastructure. Principal of the college, Prof. Muqbil Chisti presented annual report and spoke about the achievements of the institution in academics and extra-curricular activities. A composite cultural programme was also presented by the students on the occasion. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Director Colleges, academicians, serving and former principals of various colleges, faculty, staff and students of the college. |
