| Congress workers deputation meets defence minister | | | Early Times Reporter

A deputation led by here Congress leader Sajjad Shaheen from Barihal today met minister of state for defence MM Palam Raju and apprised him about the deteriorating condition of road from Ramban to Banihal especially at Pantihal landslide area where precious lives are lost every year due to shooting of stones and road blockades.
Shaheen informed the minister that crores of rupees are spent every year by the centre through Border Road Organization to prevent road blockades and shooting stones but no desired results have been achieved so far.
He appealed to the Minister to construct tunnel from Digdol to Makerkote so that the only road link connecting valley with rest of the country remains operational during winter season also.
He further demanded that Jawahar tunnel be made operational round the clock as was used some years back due to closure results into a lot of inconvenience to the people of the area in general and patients and college students who are studying in Anantnag Colleges in particular.
He further demanded a special Recruitment drive in tehsil Banhial for the educated unemployed youths to be adjusted in paramilitary forces, he also appealed to the Minister for opening of an Army School in Banihal. The Minister assured Shaheen that the demands put forth before him will be looked into for redressal on priority basis. |
