| Paharis express concern over plight community | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 17 Jammu and Kashmir cultural and welfare forum today organized a seminar "Pharis a neglected community" here at press club, wherein speakers on the occasion expressed concern over the plight of Phari people and stressed up on the state government to provide facilities to their community members so that their miseries could get alleviated. The seminar was attended by many scholars, academicians, political leaders of different political lineage, bar members, student and youth leaders besides Phari employee's welfare forum leaders, prominent citizens, retired bureaucrats and Phari forum delegates from all over the state. While speaking on the occasion, the speakers expressed concern over the plight of Phari people across the state and lambasted successive government for depriving the community members in every sphere of life. Accusing state government of making false promises, these speakers maintained that twenty lakh Phari people are residing in the state and neglecting of such a big lot of community showed government triviality towards the members of the community. The speakers also demanded the fulfillment of promises of Schedule Tribe status to Phari Tribe made by the central government before the conduction of 2008 elections and threatened for mass agitation to obtain S.T. status incase government failed to fulfill their commitment. Those spoke on the occasion included Chairman J&K cultural and welfare forum Sharafat Ali Khan, President of the forum Syed Wajahat Ali, veteran journalist and social worker Balraj Puri, Rtd. DIG A M Wattali, Ex-Minister and PDP leader Rafiq Hussein Khan student leader Tabassum Bukhari, Rafiq Khan and Tahir Naseem Manhas. Earlier, a book titled as "Pahari Tribals and Political commitments", written and published by Sharafat Ali Khan was released by state secretary of CPI-M and MLA Kulgam Mohammed Yousaf Taragami , who was chief guest on the occasion. |
